By stepping in to defend the Lower Snake River dams, reverse extreme EV mandates, back voter ID rules, and enforce Title IX, the federal government is exactly where it should be—reining in state overreach, protecting our citizens, and keeping the Union steady.
I think what might work would be a federal law (or constitutional amendment) that prevents a state law from being implemented if it is challenged on constitutional grounds. Part of that should be an immediate Supreme Court review of the challenged law (straight to the top, not a 5 year journey through the lower courts), plus a fine on the state legislature for the review. Some sort of penalty needs to be enacted for trying to destroy the constitution and the people's rights.
Excellent work Nancy, tightly written and factual backed by sources. Setting a high standard for the rest of us. I find myself in a quandary over state versus federal power. Usually lean towards state rights but so many of them, such as Washington, are pushing the very boundaries and upsetting the very critical balance of federalism that is a key factor that holds that country together. Lots to think about and your wonderful piece has added to my stock of information. Keep up the great work!
I am in the same quandary. I agree that local control is best on most issues, but we've drifted far from that standard. When the state is trampling on important rights guaranteed in the constitution, we must appeal to the federal government for relief. I didn't even mention all of the 2A infringements... because others are covering that issue quite well. It's quite a long laundry list of infringements here in Marxist Washington
We need federal laws to eliminate state legislators' power to do whatever they please.

Thank you Nancy! I hope Washingtonian’s stay alert! We have a lot going on and a lot to protect in Washington State!

Thank you, Ken for your encouragement.
